If someone infringes on a copyrighted work, the copyright owner can sue for:

• Actual damages (loss of profits + infringer’s earnings from the infringement)
• Statutory damages:
  • $750 to $30,000 per work
  • Up to $150,000 per work for willful infringement

2. Criminal Penalties (For Willful Infringement)

Under 17 U.S.C. § 506 and 18 U.S.C. § 2319, criminal copyright infringement (when done willfully and for commercial gain) carries:

• Fines up to $250,000 per offense
• Imprisonment of up to 5 years for first-time offenses
• Up to 10 years for repeat offenses
